Flying-glass hazard reduction starts with the right assessment.

01 / Understand the risk
What happens when glass breaks?
An accidental bump, impact or pressure wave from an explosion can break glazing. Depending on the glass, sharp shards or smaller fragments can move into occupied spaces. Flying glass is a separate hazard from the event itself. Building safety planning should consider the people near windows, evacuation routes and the condition of the entire glazing system.
How 3M Ultra S800 helps
3M Scotchshield Ultra S800 is a clear, 8-mil, micro-layered safety and security window film. Applied to compatible glazing, it helps hold broken glass fragments together. For an approved blast-mitigation application, the film must be specified with the required 3M Impact Protection Attachment (IPA) Sealant and suitable framing. It can reduce flying-glass hazards under certain conditions; it does not make a window unbreakable or guarantee that glass will remain in its frame.
Breakage can release fragments
Film helps retain fragments

02 / Plan around your property
Different buildings. A specific assessment.
Blast mitigation for commercial buildings and airport facilities
Airport terminal glazing, airport offices, hotels, retail properties and commercial offices need a project-specific review of glass hazards. A blast assessment considers the design threat, pressure and impulse, glass dimensions, frame capacity and attachment details. Airport projects require coordination with the facility operator, security consultant and applicable authorities. These are potential applications, not a claim that Golden Glass has worked at any named airport. Current 3M blast-related claims apply to commercial and non-educational government facilities.
Safety film for villas, schools and healthcare facilities
For villas, schools and healthcare facilities, start with an assessment of accidental impact, spontaneous glass breakage, vulnerable doors and occupied areas. Anti-shatter film is a common search term for film that helps retain fragments after breakage; it does not prevent all shattering. Residential or educational projects must not assume suitability for blast mitigation. Confirm the current manufacturer-approved use for each building and selected product.
The 3M installation guideline lists Safety S40, Safety S70, Safety S80, Safety S140, Safety S40 Exterior / S40X, Safety S70 Exterior / S70X, Scotchshield Ultra S800, Ultra Prestige S50, Ultra Prestige S70, Ultra Night Vision S25 and Scotchshield Security S2400. These products have different constructions and intended applications. This is a manufacturer-reference range, not a confirmation of Saudi stock. Ask Golden Glass to confirm current regional availability, compatibility and the approved specification. 3M IPA is an attachment component, not a window film.
3M IPA Sealant is a separate attachment component. Regional availability, approved uses and current technical specifications must be confirmed before selection.
04 / Assess before specifying
Why a glazing and site assessment matters
Film selection is only one part of a glazing system. Record the glass type and thickness, pane dimensions, coatings, existing damage, frame condition, seals and installation access. Review occupancy, nearby hazards and the desired performance with a qualified security or glazing professional. Thickness alone does not establish blast or impact performance. A recommendation should identify the film, attachment design, limitations, installation scope and available test documentation.
Standards: request evidence for the complete system
Ask your consultant which test methods and classifications apply to the project: GSA blast criteria, ASTM E1886/E1996 wind-borne debris testing, EN 12600 pendulum impact, BS EN 356:2000 security glazing, or ANSI Z97.1 safety glazing. Naming a standard is not certification. A rating belongs to a tested assembly and defined conditions; it cannot be transferred automatically to every film or existing window. No blanket P1A–P8B rating or certification is claimed here. Request the relevant test report and confirm its applicability to your glass, frame and attachment.
Saudi Arabia: Riyadh and major-city project enquiries
Discuss safety window film projects in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar, Dhahran, Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk, Abha and Buraidah. Golden Glass can review your enquiry and confirm service coverage, site access and installation scheduling for your location. Building owners, consultants and facility managers should share the city, building use, glazing photographs and approximate window dimensions. City names describe enquiry locations, not additional branch offices.
Clear answers before you decide
Is safety film bulletproof?
No. 3M safety and security window films are not bulletproof and are not designed to stop intruders. Ballistic glazing requires a separately engineered and tested solution.
Can safety film reduce flying glass during a blast?
An approved film-and-attachment system can help retain fragments under certain conditions. Performance depends on the tested glazing assembly and blast conditions. Consult a security professional; film cannot guarantee protection from injury or property damage.
Can I specify safety film for a Riyadh airport or office?
Request a project-specific glazing assessment. Airport facilities and commercial offices need operator approval, security review, appropriate attachment details and applicable test evidence. No airport approval or completed airport installation is implied.
Can safety film help with bumps and accidental impacts in a villa?
Safety film can help hold fragments together if compatible glazing breaks. A survey should check the glass, frame and approved product application. It does not stop the glass from breaking or replace required safety glazing.
How do Ultra S800, S80, S70, S40 and S140 differ?
They are different product specifications. S70 in the Safety Series is not the same product as Ultra Prestige S70. Select using the current technical data, glass compatibility, hazard assessment and attachment requirements rather than the model number alone.
Are all installations certified to GSA, ASTM or BS EN 356?
No blanket certification is claimed. Ask for the test report and classification for the proposed complete glazing system and confirm that the tested conditions match the project.
What is needed to request an assessment in Saudi Arabia?
Share your city, property type, window photos, approximate sizes and concern. Coverage and availability in Riyadh, Jeddah, the Eastern Province and other Saudi cities are confirmed for each enquiry.
Manufacturer guidance: films are not bulletproof, do not guarantee protection against injury, death or property damage, and require professional selection and installation. Read 3M Ultra S800 guidance ↗
Practical next step: request a professional assessment
Send the property city, building type, window photos, approximate glazing dimensions and your concern: accidental impact, glass fallout or a commercial blast-mitigation requirement. Golden Glass will review the enquiry before recommending a survey and suitable specification. For airports and sensitive properties, share documents through your approved channel and coordinate access with the operator. Contact +966 50 374 2870 or use the assessment link below.
